1. What is Crunchbase?

Crunchbase is a web based platform which enables it's users to find information about private and public companies and companies to list down their information on Crunchbase.

Companies publish their information on Crunchbase to different reasons. To gain media traction, to gain investor traction and for various other reasons companies and corporate bodies do publish their information on Crunchbase.

There are individuals who are doing analysis about companies, picking companies to invest also use Crunchbase to get information which are required.

2. History

Crunchbase was founded in 2007 by Michael Arrington as a startup under the TechCrunch. In September 2010 Crunchbase was acquired by AOL with the child companies of TechCrunch. Crunchbase got separated from the AOL group and became an incorporated company in 2015.

Crunchbase does have a solid business model which are driven by data for the people and institutions who require them.
