1. What is Arduino?

Arduino is a open source hardware and software and platform development company which design, develop, manufactures and distribute hardware products and software products to their users. More or less the product line of the Arduino is primarily based n single board micro-controller devices.

Arduino is used mostly for the DIY projects, research projects and test purposes and on production level applications too. Due to the low price and features like plug and play for other modules for the main development Arduino development boards, Arduino as a brand is extremely popular.

2. History

Arduino was a project started by Interaction Design Institute Ivrea in Italy. Because of the BASIC Stamp microcontroller costed US$50 which was expensive for many students, Hernando Barragan created a development platform wiring as a master's thesis project in 2003 under the supervision of Massimo Banzi and Casey Reas. The project ended up with a PCB and an ATmega 168 embedded into it. The project was named as Arduino.
