1. What is a Memory Card?

Memory card is a type of a storage device which named by different names as flash card or memory cartridge. Memory card is an electronic equipment which does not have any mechanical parts inside but the NAND flash type electronic chips inside to store data electronically.

Memory cards are used wide range of applications in the world including cameras, smart phones, computers and etc...

2. History

Memory cards were known as PC Cards or PCMCIA in the old days, where it used only for commercial memory storage By the time when the PC Cards were introduced, they were much larger in size.

The current version of smaller cards were introduced in 1994 and named as CompactFlash, SmartMedia and Miniature card. With the increasing usage of the hand held devices, the usage of Memory cards began to increase and got more efficient where they requires less space to store more data.
